thoughts relating to a painting
Let's consider everyone was born like a blank canvas, some turn out to be master pieces, and others just a random doodle. I personally prefer structured art over modern abstract art. To paint a great picture, one need to spend some time to plan out the theme, color, composition of the piece first. It would take someone who has the experience and the knowledge to have (at least) a rough sketch in mind first, before they can execute the specific work leading to a master piece.
Not to say that random inspired art work of the modernists are not beautiful, those are subjective opinions. However, art artists all have a lot of experience before they produce the highlight of their life's works. And those experiences constitute a part of the "mind's eye".
~~ just some random thoughts after attending a very educational speaker event by Dr. Robert Langer at the MITCNC Spotlight 2007 @ Hotel Nikko, SF last night. Although his talk was on biotechnology and material science, an interesting discussion on the way back spurred the above analogy in my mind.... just thought I'd share w/ those that read this blog.
