new meaning for "Saiga"
This is so weird!!! I didn't see anything like this when I was in Mongolia last summer.

"OMG! I think I just found my new favorite animal!"
"That thing is freaking ridic."
"When I was a kid my older sister got these animal wildlife cards through some nature magazine. When she got the tapir she cried because she thought it was so ugly. I wonder how she would have felt about the saiga. "
Scientists have just outfitted eight saiga with GPS tracking collars, which will have two effects: (1) helping scientists learn more about what the saiga need to survive, and (2) making the animals look even more ridiculous.See some of the hilarious comments given by other readers below:

The World's Podcast
I have always been an ardent supporter for NPR, specifically PRI programs and other BBC news programs. Today I was just browsing around on theworld.org website, and one article in particular caught my attention:
The Long War: Five Years After 9/11

"The Constant Gardener"
I just watched "The Constant Gardener" last night, and I had no expectation or understanding of the storyline when I started the movie. Less than halfway through, I already know that it's a beautiful movie, with a great story line (adapted from the book of same title), marriaged with beautiful cinematography. I am surprised that I missed it in 2005 when it was in theatre.
I list it amongst my top favourite movies, along with "The English Patient". Ralph Fiennes is also one of my favourite actors. He is a whole class different from the typical American actors such as Brad Pitt or Leo. If I liked Hugh Grant for his romantic comedy roles, then I absolutely adore Ralph's "undying love" roles. I think this actor does an excellent job in conveying emotions through his piecingly beautiful blue/gray-ish eyes, perfectly suited for his "tortured soul" images in several of his most monumental movie characters.
I don't want to spoil the movie for others here, but let me just say that it started being just a throught-provoking political movie like "Erin Brockovich", and transformed itself into this "life and death" type of romance story. Ralph's role also underwent a fundamental character change as the movie progresses on. I noted this along with his physical appearance changes, from a suavely dressed British diplomat to a scruffy rough-it-in-the-dessert lonely soul, yet still *absolutely* heart-wrenchingly handsome! Interestingly, I noted the similarity between this and Count Almasey in "The English Patient", another one of my all time tearful favourites.

Believe
It has been suggested to me lately that my blog has less and less serious thought sharing on it but rather a bunch of funny links.
I appologize to my dear readers if I've lost some depth here, will try to post some more thought provoking stuff now that my life is stabalizing..
Tonight marks the beginning of Fall launch at my small group. We had a short study because KiJoon shared his Thailand trip experience with us as the POW of the week (Yugi's term).
In any case, during our bible study, Ken raised a very interesting point regarding the differences between "Believe In God" and "Believing God"...
I am going to leave you to ponder that one out. If you want to discuss the subject further in private, chat w/ me online or send me an email or call me.
G'Nite, I have to go say my prayers now... =)

Bar Mitzvah
I was reading through laine8's blog this morning and noticed that she's invited to attend a very Jewish ceremony... How interesting! Another friend mentioned to me that he was a groomsmen at a Jewish wedding...
so I went to the web for more information and knowledge, apparently there is a website called Jewish 101. According to that site, a boy whose 13 is considered "coming of age" and thus can enter into contracts, testify before religious courts and also legally married. (12 applies to girls, apparently girls ARE more mature =)...
How interesting! (Umm.. maybe there's a Chinese101 too?)

English speakers: There is no language specific audio in this video, so go ahead and enjoy the animation! Story line: this is a hand drawn anime short story of a girl who wanted to grow her hair out to waist length, so she started wearing a blue cap to protect her hair. And naughty boys were suspicious of her "secret" and the series of events between them to unravel the secret of the blue hat.
Then there is an interesting little "Glass Dance" clip!
