Just read an editorial on the last page of the most recent issue of Times. The author pointed out the motivation for France's anti-American moves is really not to contain Iraq, but to contain the US. "French opposition to the US is not about Iraq but about who runs the world" "Any community with only one dominant power is always a dangerous one. Translation: American power in and of itself is a global menace."
"This is not about Saddam Hussein, and this is not even about regime change in Iraq or... missiles or chemical weapons... It's about whether the US is allowed to run the world affairs." Poignant piece of article, now there's some food for thought...
